Keio Plaza Hotel’s bars have many talented bartenders, and have produced numerous champion bartenders at prestigious competitions. The secret to their success lies in the “Monthly Cocktails” – creative cocktails that change every month and can be enjoyed at multiple bars and lounges within the hotel. The bartenders started presenting their original cocktails as “This Month’s Drink” in October 1972, shortly after the hotel’s opening. Since then, it has become a unique culture of the hotel, with bartenders competing and creating many original cocktails every month.
From the beginning until now, only one cocktail is selected each month for the “Monthly Cocktails”. Becoming a creator of these cocktails is the first goal for many young bartenders, and it has become a tradition within the hotel to see them working late into the night, experimenting and perfecting their cocktails after closing hours. This challenge of creating original cocktails has helped them improve their skills as bartenders.
