Since its opening in 1971, Keio Plaza Hotel has been praised for transforming the Japanese hotel industry with its pioneering spirit. This spirit was not only reflected in the hotel’s operational style and services but also in the interior design of the guest rooms, the innovative and fashionable uniforms, and more.
One such example is the color-coordinated Banquet Room decor. Our challenge with colors led to the creation of a unique and memorable hospitality experience. The first challenge was the introduction of colored tablecloths in the Banquet Rooms at the time of the hotel’s opening. Back then, white tablecloths were the norm and anything else was considered taboo. We used six different colors including yellow and green. Our staff put great effort into arranging the tables in a way that would make the colored tablecloths look beautiful. The next challenge was in 1996, during our 25th anniversary, when we introduced four types of wedding color themes that coordinated tablecloths, napkins, and flowers. There is even a story that we had a linen manufacturer dye the threads to achieve the exact colors we wanted.
This new and unique form of hospitality was ahead of its time and received an overwhelming response. In 2001, we introduced tableware that was carefully selected to complement the table settings. From 2015 onwards, we developed themed wedding Banquet Room decorations that incorporated elements from various stories. These themes extended beyond just the room decor to include sugar cakes, wedding dresses, and bouquets. Starting with “Alice in Wonderland,” we have since created colorful and imaginative themes such as “Princess Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast.” These themes were not only enjoyed by the bride and groom but also by their guests, creating a charming and delightful atmosphere. What started as a simple challenge with tablecloths has now become a signature feature of Keio Plaza Hotel, bringing joy to many of our guests.
