Keio Plaza Hotel is well known in the industry for its universal services. Among these services, the “Birds Eye” project was established in 2002 as a cross-departmental, employee-participation project to promote a universal service-oriented corporate culture, both in terms of hardware and software. The project aims to further improve the level of universal services through study sessions and awareness activities. Each year, approximately 20 members are selected through an open recruitment process to participate in activities centered around three main themes: barrier-free, ecology, and social contribution. Over 300 employees have participated in the project since its inception. One of the unique features of “Birds Eye” is that its members come from various departments, positions, years of experience, ages, and genders. The project has garnered attention as a unique organization that plays a significant role in social contribution activities, which are becoming increasingly important.
Some of the diverse activities undertaken by “Birds Eye” include study sessions and hands-on experiences with parasports in preparation for the Paralympics, research and field visits to promote understanding of assistance dogs, updated barrier-free and ecological studies, and exploring ways to contribute to the local community in a manner unique to the hotel industry. The project collaborates with external organizations and related institutions to carry out these activities. The annual charity event, “Volunteer Plaza,” showcases the achievements of “Birds Eye” and the current state of barrier-free services, allowing guests to experience and appreciate these services up close. The event is enjoyed by many attendees each year.
“Birds Eye” has also contributed to the development of universal services that are directly utilized by our guests. The experiences and passion accumulated by the hotel staff on the front lines continue to serve as a driving force for the expansion and evolution of universal services in the future.
