Against the backdrop of the city's night view from 160 meters above ground, this chandelier shines with a particularly striking brilliance. Located above the bar area counter of the Sky Lounge "Aurora "45F, this unique lighting fixture was created in 1971 when the hotel opened by Minami Tada (1924-2014), a pioneering female sculptor and three-dimensional artist known for her abstract works that utilize the reflection of light. Together with the Italian marble counter, it adorns the one-of-a-kind space and has been loved by many fans.
Hundreds of acrylic bundles hang from the ceiling, refracting countless rays of light to create a dazzling spectacle. The brilliance, as if made from all the stars twinkling in the sky, sometimes even evokes a sense of warmth, captivating the viewer. In fact, Mr. Tada had another work that adorned the main lobby when the building opened. It was "Space Terminal," a glass mirror sculpture reaching 3 meters in height, which reflected the people and scenery passing through the lobby (after the lobby was renovated in 1991, it was moved to the Toyama Prefectural Citizens' Coexistence Center). Like the chandelier, it is a unique creation by Mr. Tada, gathering and reflecting light to create another world.
The Sky Lounge Aurora offers stunning views, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to the west and the city lights of central Tokyo to the east. The chandelier in the bar area, which has stood for half a century, continues to provide guests with a fresh and exciting experience.
