Together With Environment
Our Commitment to the Environment
We are implementing environmentally friendly initiatives as we aim to be an ecological and clean hotel in the 21st century.
About Winning the Grand Prize at the Eco Mark Award 2025
Keio Plaza Hotel has been awarded the highest honor, the “Grand Prize,” in the Eco Mark Award 2025, an award system hosted by the Japan Environment Association, a public interest incorporated foundation. This award has been held once a year since 2010, and this is the second highest honor awarded to the hotel industry. Since the title was changed to “Grand Prize” in 2017, this is the first time in the industry that this honor has been awarded.
The "Eco Mark Award 2025" is an annual awards program established in 2010 by the Japan Environment Association. It recognizes companies and organizations that have made significant contributions to the formation of a sustainable society through consumers' environmentally conscious product choices and companies' efforts to improve the environment. It is one of the most prestigious awards in Japan for environmental considerations.
Eco Mark Certification for Hotels and Inns
Our environmental initiatives, such as the reuse of waste oil and the reduction of plastic and greenhouse gas emissions, have been highly regarded. As a result, we have obtained the Eco Mark certification for hotels and inns under product category No. 503, "Hotel & Inn Version 2.3," established by the Japan Environment Association.
- The Eco Mark “Hotel & Ryokan” certification has been approved as a sustainability certification system by Travalyst, a global partnership that includes major reservation websites.
Coexisting with Nature
Transition to Eco-Friendly Straws
As part of our environmental conservation efforts addressing global warming and marine plastic waste, the Keio Plaza Hotel chain used approximately 430,000 plastic straws annually. In 2018, we switched to paper straws, and in 2022, based on customer feedback and a focus on usability, we transitioned to eco-friendly, biodegradable bioplastic straws.
Switching to reusable returnable bottles
As part of our efforts to reduce plastic waste, starting from June 2024, we have switched the mineral water provided in guest rooms from plastic bottles to glass bottles. The water is sourced from 100 meters underground in the Ashigara Plain, located at the foothills of the Tanzawa Mountains, and is carefully bottled in glass.
Eco in guest rooms
Switching some guest room amenities to eco-friendly products,
“mugicara”
We have installed the "mugicara" amenity series, which reduces CO2 emissions and plastic usage, on Executive floors (1st,3F, and 14th floors).
"mugicara" is an environmentally friendly product that contains renewable biological resources derived from wheat waste.
