Enjoy Hinamatsuri at the hotel
– Reflected on a folding screen across the ages
Japanese culture –

Starting February 1, 2026, Keio Plaza Hotel will be celebrating the arrival of spring with our “Hinamatsuri” event.
In addition to the traditional hanging ornaments, with approximately 5,000 ornaments on display, this year’s event will feature a special experience and exhibition centered around the theme of “Byobu” (Japanese folding screens).
Our in-house restaurants will also be offering limited-time seasonal menus for you to enjoy.
We invite you to indulge in the beauty of Japan and celebrate spring through the five senses.

Hina Matsuri decorations

“Tsurushi Kazari” (hanging ornaments) is a traditional Japanese decoration made of approximately 5,000 hand-sewn ornaments using genuine silk antique kimono fabric, hanging in a space approximately 3 meters high, 2.4 meters wide, and 6.8 meters deep. This custom, believed to have started in the Edo period, is displayed during the Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival) to wish for the healthy growth and happiness of children.
Each ornament carries a special meaning; for example, the shrimp symbolizes “longevity”, the turtle represents “long life”, the crawling baby doll signifies “healthy growth”, and the silk ball (mari) is a wish for children to grow up “energetic and lovable”. The ornament of the horse, which is the zodiac sign for 2026, is also included as a symbol of good fortune and progress.
These ornaments were meticulously crafted, one stitch at a time, by quilt artist Mitsuyo Matsuo and 60 members of the Himawari Group, using precious genuine silk antique kimono fabric that has been passed down through generations.
In the center of the display space, you can also enjoy a tiered doll display by the long-established “Mataro Doll” company, showcasing traditional and elegant Hinamatsuri dolls.

Byobu (Japanese Folding Screen) Exhibition

Starting with the only folding screen specialty store in Tokyo, Kataoka Byoubu Store, we will be exhibiting approximately 20 folding screens from a variety of genres such as landscapes, Japanese paintings, and ink & color paintings. These include works by Japanese painters and Yamato-e artists, Masatsugu Ito, photographic artist Yasutaka Tanchi, abstract artist Yumi Tanaka, and Akio Kobayashi.

Founded in 1946 in Sumida, Tokyo, Kataoka Byoubu Store is a long-established specialty store that has been manufacturing and selling folding screens for various occasions, including traditional Japanese seasonal festivals, hotels, wedding venues, and decorative spaces. Their extensive portfolio includes original folding screens for major corporations' anniversaries and a homage to Hokusai folding screens. In recent years, they have actively expanded their business beyond sales, engaging in live demonstrations for inbound tourists and collaborations with artists. As they approach their 80th anniversary in 2026, they continue to garner attention as a bridge connecting traditional Japanese culture to the modern era.
